Back in August Adrian Verdejo and I had the opportunity to work with film director Javier Posadas in Mexico City to create the music video for Alfredo Santa Ana’s piece, Wave Remote. Shot in locations all over the city, the piece is a love letter to Alfredo’s time growing up as a rock guitarist in CDMX — with liberal doses of magic realism and American minimalism mixed in for good measure. Shooting this video was wild: Javier filmed us while we performed on a microbús as it drove through the streets of the city; we also filmed in the middle of Reforma Avenue while cars zipped by us on either side (with drivers occasionally slowing down to ask what band we were in); and the next morning we were at the Palacio de Bellas Artes at 6am to get shots done before the crowds took over the area. The result is a video that truly compliments Alfredo’s music: Javier has captured the manic, joyous energy of the first movement, and the surreal “mirror image” effects of the second. I’m so thrilled with this and think it’s a wonderful counterpart to my video of Alfredo’s piece, Notgnirrac, directed by Bernardo González Burgos.
